Montanuniversitaet Leoben (University of Leoben)

The Montanuniversitaet Leoben (MU Leoben), established in 1840, is unique in its high degree of specialization: the major research areas and degree programs are embedded in the value chain from raw materials to recycling: the portfolio ranges from extraction and mining to the processing of resources and basic materials, metallurgy, high-performance materials, process and product engineering, environmental technology and recycling, complemented by power engineering and production logistics.

Project Goals

MU Leoben contributes as scientific partner to this project with its expertise in material science of metals and polymers, high pressure material testing, corrosion and hydrogen effects on materials.

“For Montanuniversitaet Leoben it is a big pleasure and also responsibility to participate in an international consortium to demonstrate that large scale high pressure underground hydrogen storage is possible. Hydrogen storage will give our society the possibility to switch from carbon based energy carriers to hydrogen based energy carriers. Considering the tremendous climate change this is a very important and necessary initiative to set the basis for accelerating the energy transition. Montanuniversitaet Leoben is looking forward to the impact of European Union project EUH2STARS“, says Gregor Mori, Associate Professor for Corrosion and Hydrogen Embrittlement at Montanuniversitaet Leoben.
