Energieinstitut an der Johannes Kepler University Linz

EIL excels particularly where single-disciplinary research reaches its limits, since the three departments of the institute (energy economy, -law and -engineering) enable a comprehensive and interdisciplinary analysis for future-oriented energy topics. The institute’s analyses range from feasibility studies of PtG applications to economic quantifications of possible substituted system costs and the analysis of legal and socio-economic barriers concerning power-to-gas deployment on national and international level.

Project Goals

EIL leads the development of societal embeddedness level assessment, analyses regulatory and socio-economic barriers in the implementation of UHS and develops a replication plan for the underground hydrogen storage for an integrated European energy system based on renewable energy sources.

"Hydrogen storage is one of the central blocks of the energy system of the future. It is a fundamental cornerstone of our energy infrastructure, which is why we are actively involved in the further development of these systems", says EIL Director, Robert Tichler.
